Occupying what used to be the old general store, Two if By Sea is in many ways a throw back to the “good old days”.  The island folk, both full time and part time use this as a meeting place on the island where they can chat about  happenings both local and national.  Surrounded by the work of local artisans, a library of cook books, and a great collection of antique cookie jars you are taken back to a period of time where life moved a bit more slowly and  people had time to discuss the events of the day.

Wednesday and Friday morning it is the “come heres” a group of high energy retirees, with less than a generation of island history, who catch up on the latest news and events both local and national with a varied selection of breakfasts delights to fuel the conversation.   Several local watermen often join in the discussion, and talk about the way it used to be or the current issues that face this eastern shore county and the Chesapeake Bay.

For many, the bay is still the primary source of their livelihood.  On the weekends a mix of  “been heres” who have more than several generations on the island, and weekenders enjoy both the conversation and the varied menu with a chalkboard filled with special creations by Chef Henry.  Whether it’s a local book club talking about this month’s selection, a group of watermen sharing their views on the fishing, crabbing and oystering and the status of the bay, or visitors getting ready for a day of charter boat fishing, hunting or just a get away weekend, they come here to enjoy the food, peace and tranquility of an island that moves a bit more slowly.

Recently folks on the island established a “coffee house” atmosphere at “TIBS” where island folks both new and old get to share their musical talents once a month on a weekday evening.  His monthly themed dinners are often sell outs as are his cooking classes on late Sunday afternoons.  For some, the ambience of this informal dining spot is truly a place where one can get a peaceful moment before going back to the fast paced environment in which they work or live.
